一、学业指导
(一)学期安排
每一学年分为春季和秋季两个学期。一般每学期约20周,其中最后2周为复习考试时间。每年9月是新学年的开始,也是秋季学期的开始;春季学期一般从2月开始。
(二)学习年限
本科生在校学习期限为六年,其中包括一年的临床实习时间。
二、课程安排
课程类型分成必修课和选修课:
必修课是学生必须完成、不能自主选择的课程。
选修课是在教学范围内自由选择的课程。
本科生的毕业要求:根据教学计划,修满规定的课程并成绩合格,完成毕业论文或毕业设计。
三、注册
在校生每学期应按规定日期到校注册。注册须由本人携带学生证完成。注册前必须先缴清学费,无交费记录者,将不予注册。
无故不按时注册超过两周者,按自动退学处理,学校按规定注销其学籍。
四、交纳学费规定
(一)留学生应该在学校规定的时间内按时足额交纳学费,必须在每学期报到时一次性付清一年的学费。
(二)学费的交费截止日期为学校规定的在校生注册日的最后一天。
(三)留学生申请缓交学费,必须提出书面申请并经学校批准。
五、考勤和请假
(一)考勤
学校对教学计划规定的课堂讲授、考试、考查和其他教学活动都要进行考勤,学生因故不能出勤,应事先请假。
未请假或请假未被批准而不出勤者,均以旷课论。学校将按规定对旷课的学生作相应的处理。
(二)请假
1. 留学生因病、因事请假直接到外事办公室办理相关手续。 请假获准后,请假单存根及相关材料存外办备查。
2. 需要离开中国大陆的留学生,凭请假单到外事办公室办理返回签证手续。
3. 因病长期不能坚持学习者(病假超过本学期总学时的三分之一或6周),应向学校申请休学。
4. 一学期请假累计超过本学期总学时的三分之一或6周以上,且没有申请停学者,作退学处理。
六、考试和成绩
(一)考试
留学生必须参加所修课程的考试或考查,因故不能参加考试(考查)时必须提前书面向教务处和外事办请假并申请缓考,经批准后可参加下一次该门课程的考试。未经请假或请假未获批准而不参加考试者,成绩以零分计。
(二)成绩评定
考试采用百分制计分,一般60分为及格。考查课的成绩一般按合格、不合格来评定。学生出勤情况、课堂表现、课后作业、平时测验以及期中考试都与期末成绩有关,期末考试只是考试成绩的一部分。
考试不及格的课程,必修课必须重修,选修课可以申请重修,并按学校有关规定交纳重修费。同一课程最多可以重修两次,重修成绩为最终成绩。
重修的必修和选修课程累计达8门(含8门)以上者,不授予学士学位。
七、考试纪律
凡在考试、考查、论文中有作弊或抄袭等欺骗性行为者,将按学校有关规定予以严厉惩处。
课程考试时作弊,该课程总成绩以零分计。凡考试作弊累计两次者,给予勒令退学的处分。
八、毕业、结业和学位
完成教学计划规定的全部课程并成绩合格者,准予毕业,发给毕业证书,并授予相应的学士学位。
在规定的学习年限内未完成所规定的课程,只发给结业证书。
中途退学、学满两年以上并按规定办理了离校手续者,发给肄业证书。
九、奖励和处分
对遵守学校纪律、学习成绩优秀的留学生给予表彰和奖励。
十、处分
对违反校纪、旷课、破坏公共财物、打架斗殴或有其它不良行为者,视情节轻重,分别给以警告、严重警告、记过、留校察看、勒令退学、开除学籍的处分。
十一、奖学金
学校为留学生设立了奖学金,用以鼓励大家刻苦学习、努力钻研。奖学金分为一、二、三等。奖学金每学期发放一次。
十二、住宿费
留学生必须按学校规定及时缴纳住宿费。拖欠房费,要加收5%的滞纳金,严重者要取消住房资格。
十三、签证及居留手续
(一)签证及居留证
签证和居留证是留学生在中国合法居住停留的重要证件,关系到每一个留学生在学校期间能否安心学习,顺利完成学业。而签证和居留证也是一个比较复杂的问题,针对不同的情况有很多比较复杂的手续要办理。所以同学们一定要把下面的内容仔细阅读、理解,遇到不懂的地方可以向留办的老师咨询,确保学习期间,你的签证和居留证没有问题。
(二)签 证
留学生来华必须持普通护照,并持学习(X字)签证入境。如果持其它签证入境,须尽快变更为学习签证。
(三)学习结束离境
留学生学习结束离开中国大陆,一定要在签证或居留证的有效期内出境。如因故不能按期出境,需提出申请,经批准办理签证或居留证延长手续。出境不再返回的留学生,出境时其居留证由边防检查站收回。
十四、遵守中国法律及有关规定
留学生在中国学习,其合法权益受中国法律的保护。留学生也必须遵守中国法律及学校的有关规定,比如《中华人民共和国外国人入境出境管理法》、《中华人民共和国治安管理处罚条例》、《泸州市道路交通管理法》、《高等学校校园秩序管理若干规定》.
十五、生活指南
(一)保 险
留学生在学期间必须自费购买医疗保险。留学生所购买的保险至少要包括意外伤害和住院医疗两个险种。
(二)医疗服务
学校有医务室可以为学生提供良好的医疗服务,当你身体不适时可以凭学生证到医务室就诊,病情较严重时请到医院就诊。
(三)图书馆的使用
学校图书馆对留学生开放,凭借书证可以在图书馆借阅图书文献。
在图书馆借书,期满后需要办理续借手续。如果过期不还,图书馆将视情节轻重给予相应的处罚。
(四)安全服务
泸州的治安不错,在西南医大学习生活,是比较安全的。但还是建议你不能掉以轻心。要保管好自己的护照和钱物,平时不要把护照和大量的钱物带在身上,只要带着学生证,在校内和市内都是可以证明身份的。
出行时要遵守交通规则,注意交通安全。
万一出现问题,一定要及时报警,同时要向外事办公室报告。

十六、生活设施
学校在学生餐厅设有留学生用餐窗口。留学生也可以到其它学生餐厅用餐。校园内也有超市、商店,可以购买食品及日用品。
(一)邮政电信
校园内有邮局邮件收发室,可以办理各种邮政业务。
如果有人给你寄来重要邮件时,会给你发邮件通知单,告诉你寄来的是什么(如可能是信件、包裹或是汇款等)。凭本人的学生证或护照到邮件收发室领取。
(二)电话服务
留学生宿舍里都有电话。房间里的是201电话,需要使用专用的201电话卡。
使用IP卡(Internet Phone Card)打国际电话,价格要比普通电话便宜很多。
(三)网络服务
留学生上网非常方便,可以到计算机中心上网,寝室也安装了校园网接口,可缴纳使用费后申请开通。
(四)货币及银行
在中国只能使用人民币。人民币的单位是元,辅币是角,缩写符号是RMB。中国银行可以办理人民币和外币(包括旅行支票等)的兑换及存款等业务。换钱需要出示护照或者居留证。具体问题,可以向银行咨询。
(五)市内交通
市内有专线222公共汽车连接学校两个校区和市区,出行比较方便。出租汽车一般都昼夜服务,出租汽车车顶有“TAXI”的标志灯,下车时会给你打印出乘车费发票。
十七、节假日
留学生享受与中国学生相同的节假日。其他国家的节假日,学校不放假。
校历上有当年的假期安排。假期前夕,学校都会发布关于假期的具体安排。
除寒暑假以外,中国的节日主要有:
01月01日元旦节放假一天
05月01日劳动节 放假三天
10月01日 国庆节 放假三天
十八、课余活动
国际交流学校在课余时间为留学生组织各种文体、参观、游览活动。学校各院系也组织各种活动,都欢迎留学生参加。
留学生可以参加学校的运动队、文艺表演队以及学生舞蹈团、合唱团等等。
十九、学生社团
学校有多个学生社团,你可以积极参加他们组织的各种活动。你可以根据自己的兴趣和爱好,参加不同的社团活动。
留学生在校内成立联谊团体,必须提出书面申请并经学校批准,在中国法律、法规规定的范围内活动,服从学校的领导和管理。
二十、在中国旅游
留学生可以利用假期到外地旅游。
外出旅行时,一定要带上护照和居留证,并要保管好证件和贵重物品。
旅游的地点,一定要选择中国境内对外国人开放的地区。未经允许,不得进入未对外国人开放的地区和场所。如因科研或学术需要,需经专门批准,才可进入未开放区。违反上述规定,公安机关将依据《中华人民共和国外国人管理法》的有关规定予以处罚。

HANDBOOK FOR THE INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

RULES OF CONDUCT
1. Study hard and complete all assignments.
2. Observe university regulations.
3. Show respect for faculty members and staff.
4. Respect your fellow students and cultivate friendship.
5. Pay attention to hygiene and physical exercise.
6. Obey the laws and regulations of the Chinese government.
7. Respect Chinese social customs and habits.
PROVISIONAL RULES AND REGULATIONS
In principle, the provisional rules and regulations are drawn in accordance with the rules for Chinese students who are studying in Southwest Medical University and with other related rules.
DIRECTORY FOR STUDY
1. SCHOOL YEAR: A school year is divided into 2 semesters, usually the 1st semester is from Sept. 1st to January 15th of the next year, and the 2nd semester is from March 1st to July 15th.
2. DURATION: 6 years (5 years for study, 1 year for internship).
3. COURSES: All the courses are divided into compulsory subjects (257 credits) and selective subject (29.5 credits):
a. Compulsory courses: The students must study and complete.
b. Elective courses: Students can choose to take. If they choose an elective course, they must pass the course.
4. CLINICAL STUDY REQUIREMENT: If a student fails in any one of the pre-clinical courses, he/she will not be allowed to study the clinical courses.
5. GRADUATION REQUIREMENT: A student can get his/her certificate on condition of the completion of all the 3 terms below:
a. Complete and pass all the compulsory courses.
b. Get at least 20 credits for the selective courses.
c. Complete graduation papers.
university tuition fees
1. Students should pay full amount of university tuition fees in the set time. It is to be paid before registration of each school year.
2. The dateline of paying university tuition fees is last date of new school year registration. Registration shall proceed after tuition fees are paid.
3. Students apply to suspend university tuition fees payment must submit a written application and get permitted by the university.
REGISTRATION
1. New students should register at the International Education School, SWMU within the fixed period of time. He/she should submit JW202 Form, Passport and Physical Examination Documents.
2. At the beginning of each school year, the students must hand in the fee in the Financial Office and then register in the International Education School with their student ID.
3. At the beginning of each semester, returning students must register at the International Education School within the predefined period according to the university timetable.
4. Students who cannot return on time must ask for permission in advance, and submit application with the signature of his/her guardian.
PHYSICAL EXAMINATION
1. Students who study over three months should go through a physical examination within the fixed period of time at the designated hospital.
2. The student who has a health certificate should have it reconfirmed with China Health and Quarantine Bureau. Those whose health certificates do not accord with the demands must undergo a further examination.
3. A student whose health does not meet the requirements of the examination must leave China at once and pay for his/her own transportation home.
ATTENDANCE
1. ATTENDANCE: Students are required to attend all the theory classes, practical classes and examinations. Students who are absent without any permission will be regarded as truant.
2. ASKING FOR A LEAVE:
a. Students should ask for permission to leave in written forms ahead of time if he/she cannot attend classes for special reasons.
b. If the total time of leave (because of illness, personal affairs) is more than 1/3 of the total class time or more than 6 weeks, the student will be asked to suspend the study. The student status will be kept one year during suspension.
c. If the total time of absence is more than 60 of the total class time, the student will be ordered to quit.
d. The student who is disqualified to study must leave the university within 15 days and will not be allowed to resume study.
EXAMINATION AND GRADING
1. EXAMINATIONS: Students must take examinations for all required courses, elective courses, and complete practice assignments.
2. GRADING: All the examinations are graded with 2 different ways:
a. The 100-point system. The passing score is 60 out of 100 points. The final score is composed of the final examination (80%) and mid-term examination, test and behavior (20%).
b. Pass or Fail Evaluation. It has five grades: Excellent, Very Good, Good, Pass, and Failure.
3. EXAMINATION PAPERS: The exam papers will not be given back to the students and will be kept in the International Education School for one year. The student with problems or questions may submit written request for reconsideration. The department will recheck the paper according to regular procedures.
4. RE-EXAM AND RE-STUDY:
a. Re-exam: Students who failed will have one chance of re-exam in the following semester. The final score of this course is in the Student Academic Record will be marked 60 if the student passes the re-exam. Final exam score but will be recorded if the student fails the re-exam.
b. Re-study: Students who failed in the re-exam and students who cheated in the examination must re-study. The student will have only one chance of re-study the same course. The fee for re-study is $10 for each credit.
5. RULES OF EXAMINATION ROOM: The student must observe the rules of the examination room and must not cheat in the examination.
a. Once cheating is found, the student will be asked to leave the room and the paper is marked Zero.
b. The student who is found cheating in the exam will not have the chance of re-exam but can re-study once.
c. The punishment is Warning, if a student is warned twice, he/she will be expelled.
GRADUATION, COMPLETION AND DEGREE
1. GRADUATION: A Graduation Certificate will be issued to the students who have obtained the required credits of compulsory and elective courses according to the curriculum.
2. COMPLETION: The international students who fail to obtain the required credits according to the curriculum are regarded as completing courses and issued a Completion Certificate.
3. DEGREE: Bachelor’s Degree of M.B.B.S will be given to the qualified student who has got Graduation Certificate.
AWARD AND PUNISHMENT
1. AWARD:
a. Students who observe school regulations and laws, and excel in study will be honored with the title of Excellent Student. The university will give such students a Certificate of Merit and awards at the end of each academic year.
b. The students whose results of some major courses are listed among the top will be rewarded the honor of Excellent Student in Single Course. The university will issue this student a Certificate of Merit as an encouragement.
c. The university will give oral or written praise to the student who has done something good on or off campus. A written report will be sent to the embassy of his/her country to China.
2. PUNISHMENT:
a. The student who often skips class and doesn't change such behavior after being pointed out will be punished according to the seriousness of his/her case.
b. The following misconducts are subject to school disciplines in terms of Warning, Serious Warning, Demerit Recording, Putting on Probation, Ordering to Quit or be Expelled from School: a. Breaking of School Disciplines b. Damaging public properties c. Engaging in fighting d. Getting drunk e. Other wrong doings.
c. The student who must suspend studying in the university should return home immediately. The disciplinary measure against him/her may be lifted if the student who is put on probation has clearly corrected his/her misconduct within a year. If he/she fails to correct his/her misconduct while on probation, the student will be ordered to leave school. ·
d. Once the decision for the above-mentioned punishment is made, the student concerned will be notified. In addition, a written notification will be sent to the embassy in China, or to the sending organization. The student who is told to Quit, be put on Probation or Expelled must leave school within 15 days.
3. SCHOLARSHIP: In order to encourage the students to study hard, a scholarship will be given to the top students.
a. It is given every semester.
b. The scholarship is divided into 3 grades: Grade I, Grade II and Grade III.
c. Students who are punished by Warning (or above punishment) will not have the chance of winning a scholarship in the concerned semester.
VISA AND RESIDENT PERMIT
1. VISA: A student should enter China with an “X” visa, a student arriving with other type of visa should convert it into “X” visa within 30 days of arrival.
2. RESIDENT PERMIT: Resident Permit can prove the identity as a resident of China, with which a student can go back to his/her home country and come back to China. Students should apply for Resident Permits within 30 days of arrival.
DORMITORY REGULATIONS
In order to guarantee the security of the students and to ensure the normal order of the students’ dormitory, according to the relevant rules of our university, the following regulations are made:
1. Students are not authorized to lease out, exchange rooms, or keep visitors overnight without permission.
2. Keep quiet in the rooms. Any activity which may disturb the study and rest of the other students are not allowed. Only with the permission of the International Education School, can the students organize activities in the dormitory.
3. Students should take good care of all the facilities and appliances in the rooms. Compensation for lost and damaged things is mandatory.
4. Students should not install extra electric heaters or utensils in the rooms. Violators will suffer a penalty of a fine accordingly.
5. Students should not light candles or light a fire to cook in the dormitory.
6. It is urged that the students should take care of important personal documents and articles, and be always on alert against thieves, fire or any emergency.
7. The student rooms should be kept clean. Things like papers or fruit peels or used bottles should be thrown into trash bins.
8. Students must abide by the university timetable. Every student must be back to the dormitory before 11:00 p.m. (11:30 on weekends). In case of some special situation, the student should report to the guards in advance.
9. When leaving the university, students should make sure that everything in the room is in order and undamaged.
10. Every student is required to act in accordance with the above items.
LIFE DIRECTORY
1. Insurance: Students can choose to buy different kinds of insurance from the Insurance Company.
2. Holidays: Besides the Winter Vacation and Summer Vacation, students will enjoy the following national holidays of China:
a. New Year’s Day (January 1st)
b. Labor’s Day (May 1st-3rd)
c. National Day (October 1st-3rd)
3. Medical Care: There is a clinic on campus, a student can go with his/her student ID. There are 3 affiliated hospitals of SWMU in Luzhou city, a student can go if he/she has serious illness.
4. Post Office: There is a post office on campus, students can send and receive letters and parcels there. For registered letters and parcels, a student should submit his/her Student ID.
5. Internet Service: There is a Computer Center on campus, students can go and use the computer and internet. There is an internet connection in each dormitory room, a student can apply to get it through and pay for the monthly rent.
6. In China, Chinese RMB is the only currency that can be used.
7. If any emergency, contact the officials in the International Education School of SWMU, and you can also call for help by dialing “110” which is the emergency number of the Police.
